Coffs Harbour: Dorrigo Adventure Tour

Tours can be difficult to decide on. As a relatively new solo traveller I’m always seeking the best companies and tours that can help me to find unforgettable experiences that I am otherwise not always as capable of achieving on my own at a reasonable price. During my travels along East Coast Australia, I’ve been faced with – and will continue to be faced with – many potential tours to book and it all depends on what I feel I could do independently along with how much I want to see or do something.

When it came to Coffs Harbour, I was sure of one thing: I needed to see Dorrigo National Park and Dangar Falls. Luckily I stumbled upon Coffs Coast Surf Tours during one of my scrolling sessions on Instagram. CCST offer three excellently organised tours in the Coffs Coast area. After deliberating over how amazing all three tours looked and sounded, I eventually opted for the Adventure tour.

The Dorrigo Adventure Tour will take you from the suburbs of Coffs Harbour through the quaint villages of Sawtell and Bellingen to the winding roads of Waterfall Way in just one hour. For an unforgettable experience during your stay in Coffs Harbour, book yourself on to this tour and the passionate team from Coffs Coast Surf Tours will be there to guide you and tell stories of Australian history and wildlife from the moment you eagerly step on to their bus to the second you excitedly hop off by the end of your amazing day of exploration.

If you need further help making your decision, I’ve written this post as someone who has experienced and loved every minute of the tour, so if it sounds like something you’d love to experience too, read on!

What will I see and do on the Dorrigo Adventure Tour?

Obviously a main highlight of the tour is visiting Dorrigo National Park. However the first stop of the day is Dangar Falls where you’ll go on a downwards stroll to the bottom and will be able to slip into your swimwear and take a dip in the water, even swimming up to and behind the waterfall if you wish to! From here, it’s 10 minutes on the bus to the national park where you’ll go on a trek through Gondwana Rainforest before arriving at the Crystal Shower Falls for more photo opportunities. Walk back through the rainforest and discover the lush mountainous views from the Skywalk. Just before the rainforest walk, you’ll stop for a tasty lunch prepared by your guide.

You can suitably walk off all the carbs just in time to leave the national park and hop back on the bus for a stop in the town of Bellingen, which conveniently has a great ice cream shop… and I don’t know about you, but I’m always more than happy for a tour to include an ice cream stop!

After a short wander through Bellingen, you will drive towards Bonville Creek to try your hand at a spot of kayaking or stand up paddle boarding. Perfect if you’re experienced or a beginner (I was) to enjoy the calm waters, the serene surroundings of the creek and spot some local wildlife.

Finally, still at Bonville Creek chat to your new tour friends, engage in an optional game of zorb soccer and wait for your BBQ dinner with the backdrop of a gorgeous sunset falling over the creek.

What should I bring with me?

Make sure you bring a swimsuit and towel – even if you think swimming in the waterfall isn’t your thing before you go on the tour, you might just surprise yourself when you’re presented with the natural beauty that is Dangar Falls. Take yourself an extra layer too as the tour runs into the early evening and depending on weather conditions or just the time of year you go, the air can get a little chilly! You should also bring with you a pair of comfortable shoes for walking, a water bottle, sun cream, a fully charged camera and of course… a sense of adventure!

What should I expect from my tour guide?

You guide will be one of three friendly, informative local Australians, completely passionate about being outdoors and showing you all that the Coffs Coast has to offer. They will be with you every step of the way but in no way make you feel pressured into trying something you’re not keen on, or make you feel like you’re in a rush to move on. They give you just enough space to enjoy each part of the tour but are always there to answer any burning questions and offer further tips for your stay in Coffs.

What will the tour group be like?

Well, it’s hard to say completely! However the maximum number on any tour will only be 11 people, plus your tour guide. The tour is open to anyone of all ages. As Coffs is a popular coastal stop for travellers in New South Wales, you’ll most likely be joined by a variety of other excited travellers from around the world!

What else is included?

While it’s best to bring your own bottle of water with you, lunch and dinner is provided on the tour. And it’s not just a plain old salad sandwich like you’d expect on most day tours either. Look forward to a delicious, homemade picnic lunch and an Aussie BBQ in the evening while you watch the sun set.

Also included is pick-up and drop-off at your accommodation, which is great! Not all tour companies would offer this.

Everything needed to participate in kayaking and/or stand up paddle boarding is there for you. And if you’re a beginner, your guide will happily show you the ropes and you’ll be gliding along the water in no time at all.
